Women’s History Month started out as a week, specifically the week of March 7, 1982, and we celebrated “Women’s History Week” every year until 1987 when the country celebrated women’s contributions to the United States of America for the whole month of March. Progress! Now, we devote every month of March to recognizing the achievements women have made throughout American history in a variety of fields.
Long before the 1980s, women, and bicycles teamed up to make history. While the first bicycles of the early nineteenth century were considered exclusively for men, women quickly adopted the form of transportation along with donning a “bicycling costume”, which still made its way to the ankles but allowed for more movement. Progress!
Bicycles eventually made their way into the women’s suffrage movement. Means of campaigning and drawing attention, early twentieth century bicycles blocked motorcades and provided a shorter road to freedom for women campaigning for the vote. In 1896, Susan B. Anthony wrote that the bicycle “has done more to emancipate women than any one thing in the world.”
A Woman’s Place is on an E-Bike
Now that we have the luxury to ride bikes for fun, let’s explore EBC’s focus on women in designing and building their E-Bikes. With women running both of EBC’s showrooms, we offer quite the insight into everything an E-Bike can provide for women.
