Check out what Kristen from Electric Bike Report thought of the Model Y from EBC.
“Comfortable, relaxed, beach-cruiser style bike. It has a lot of power though. It’s very comfortable with a nice wide saddle… and easy geometry for easy on and off…”
“A very impressive E-Bike… (with) a lot of power”
“Another thing I love about this bike is that it is ultimately customizable!”
“One of the most comfortable saddles I’ve used on an E-Bike…”
“For what looks like a relaxed beach cruiser, the Model Y is surprisingly powerful with extended range”
Battery & Balance
Kristen does a great job explaining why we added the battery to the front basket – one of the defining features of the Model Y. Placing the battery in the front basket has a number of advantages – in addition to balancing the weight of the bike (the motor is in the rear hub), it makes the Model Y easy to get on and off because you’re not having to navigate around the battery on the top tube. It also frees up the back of your bike, so you’ve got more storage options than if you had a battery under your back rack.
The Relationship Between Pedal Assist and Throttle
Another feature that Kirsten explains well is how on our EBC bikes, the throttle power correlates directly with the current level of pedal assist. This ensures that our E-Bikes are very manageable when you’re riding.
As a guide, when you’re using level one pedal assist and throttle, you can reach speeds of up to around 11 mph. Level two pedal assist and throttle will get you up to 13 mph, level three up to 15 mph, level four around 18 mph and level five up to 20 mph. Once you reach level five, you can keep pedaling to reach speeds of up to 28 mph but the throttle cuts out at 20 mph. These top speeds can be customized – you can move the top speed for pedal assist from 20 up to 25 mph.
But enough from us. Kristen has a lot of useful info to tell you about the Model Y so make sure you watch the video!
