The proposed E-BIKE Act, re-introduced by California Congressman Jimmy Panetta last week, would provide a refundable federal income tax rebate of up to 30% of the cost of buying an e-bike, capped at $1,500. Electric Bike Company strongly supports this legislation, as do many of our e-bike fans, which have long hoped and advocated for a measure like this.

What is the Credit?
The Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment Act is offering a consumer tax credit, which will cover up to 30% of the total cost of the e-bike or $1,500, whichever happens, to be less. It’s also available to individuals once every three years. If you ask us, it sounds like the perfect opportunity to buy a new e-bike. E-Bikes must be equipped with a motor less than or equal to 750 watts* (rounded) and fall into class 1, 2, or 3. There must also be a seat for the rider and pedals that propel the vehicle; basically, it’s just the simple definition of an e-bike.
