With the arrival of fall colors, cooler weather, and spooky decorations, comes shorter days, and more hours of darkness. But, not to fear, friends. Darker days doesn’t mean less adventure.
From standard LED safety lights to optional high/low beam lights, illuminated helmets to reflective detailing, Electric Bike Company’s here to shine a light on some of our favorite tips for keeping rides lit, no matter how dark it gets.
A few of our favorite e-bike riding in the dark tips:
- Lights: Front and rear lights are a must when riding in the dark. Not only for your ability to see your path as a driver, but also to ensure your visibility to other vehicles. Additional lights and increased capability only increase you ability to communicate to other vehicles and improve safety, such as high/low beam, turn signals, brake lights and automatic sensors. Adding lights elsewhere, like your helmet helps to increase visibility. EBC’s E-Helmet features front and rear lights (and optional flashing modes) to provide optimal visibility while riding in the dark, as well as through traffic or other busy areas.
- Power: It’s always good to prepare for the unexpected, but exceptionally so when riding at night. Ensuring your battery is charged, and potentially packing a second batter in a backpack or MIK trunk bag, not only extends your range, but keeps the lights on, things powered up (and ready to charge a cell phone) no matter what the hour.
- Reflective Gear: As discussed above, visibility is key when riding in the dark. Lights are imperative, but added reflective details on your e-bike, such as reflective side walls on tires, and apparel broadens your overall visibility.
- Be Prepared: If you know you’ll be riding in the dark, plan your route accordingly. Know where your going, how much power you’ll need to get there, and pack appropriate clothing and reflective gear to keep the ride safe and comfortable. If you’ll be using GPS, be prepared with a phone mount to keep it handsfree.
