The 3rd Saturday of September marks National CleanUp Day which encourages everyone to take action and make everywhere a better place to live! It’s a day to put litter in its place and consider the impact we all have on our communities in our every day routines.
Whether you bleed green or are just relieved to make it to the market with reusable bags, considering the effects we have on the environment in our daily lives can be the catalyst for positive change.
E-biking is a great start. According to a study out of the University of Oxford, choosing to ride a bike instead of drive just one-day-per-week can reduce a person’s transportation-related emissions by 67%. Since e-bikes increase a rider’s range, it makes choosing to ride even more doable for many.
The following are our favorite environmental benefits to e-biking:
- No air pollution: e-bikes are zero-emission which prevents global warming and reduces smog and other air contaminants.
- Better use of electricity: Charging an e-bike battery overnight, off peak hours, tends to be a natural time for most, as well as reduce the load on the power grid.
- Go farther while leaving the car at home: Experts have been suggesting riding a bike to get around instead of a car for years; but the reality of that is too challenging for many. E-bikes enable riders to go farther faster and more comfortably, making it easier to chose to ride than drive.
- Better batteries: Sure batteries create waste, but e-bike batteries last for years, creating less water overall. Additionally, EBC batteries are lithium-ion, which means they are recyclable and don’t contain toxic elements, like lead. Win-win.
So, this weekend as we prepare to usher in autumn and leaves continue to change color, think about how you can integrate more green into your daily life! For starters, consider hitting the trail, a local park, a favorite beach, or just the nearest street corner (on your EBC, of course) and doing a little litter removal for National CleanUp Day.
