Tire thickness often comes into the picture when you’re trying to decide which E-Bike is going to be the right choice for you. Different bikes offer different tire measurements based on what they’re going to be used for. If you’re in the market for a comfortable cruiser that’s extremely efficient, read on…
Here at Electric Bike Company, we did a lot of research before determining the right tire thickness for our custom beach cruisers. We wanted to make sure we were designing the most efficient electric cruisers with maximum battery life, and maximum comfort.
Into the Thick of It
Decisions around tire thickness are a tradeoff… In general, thinner tires tend to have higher pressure, less tire surface area in touch with the road and travel faster. The drawbacks? Unless you’re riding over a perfectly smooth surface, they offer a much bumpier ride and can puncture much more easily.
Thicker tires can be ridden at lower pressures which offers the rider a much more comfortable ride, but this comes at a significant cost. Thicker tires are harder to pedal, heavier than their thinner counterparts and often require a heavier bike frame to support them. As a result, they substantially reduce your speed and battery range.
The Best of Both Worlds
All EBC electric bikes come with “hybrid” or “cruiser” tires that offer the efficiency, speed and weight benefits of thinner tires while ensuring a more comfortable ride like thicker tires. Specially made for E-Bikes and offering superior durability and low roll resistance (less drag and better battery performance), our tires are perfect for the high mileage of an E-Bike.
Our Models C, S, X & Y offer a smooth ride with specialist tires reinforced with KEVLAR fibers together with 50 EPI casing and puncture protection that are 2.2” thick. Our rugged Model R has premium puncture resistant 3” tires that allow you to go anywhere, anytime with no puncture or comfort worries. Our smaller Model M offers 1.75” tires with inverted tread design and knurled tread surface for fast rolling without sacrificing traction.
Choosing the right E-Bike can be daunting but it doesn’t have to be. Check out this chart for a side-by-side breakdown of all our models to see how they compare.
